Wondering why the price of an item is different at checkout?
Two words: taxes and fees
Sales tax (don’t worry, we won’t bore you to death)
A sales tax is added to the price of items sold at Back Market but doesn’t appear until you’re at the stage where you’re about to checkout. This is because the tax rate isn’t the same across all 50 states (some states don’t charge any sales tax at all, like Oregon or Montana). The rate depends on where you’re shipping to — so we won’t be able to calculate the final price with taxes until you put in the delivery address.
Quality Assurance Fee
The other thing you might have noticed is the Quality Assurance Fee. This fee powers programs that were created to continue improving the level of quality control and customer service across our platform. It also helps us to work with our network of sellers to establish best practices and continue to boost their performance with regard to testing and repairs.
This is a tiered service fee that is charged based on the total amount in your cart, as follows:
