What is an IMEI number?
The IMEI number, or International Mobile Equipment Identity, is a unique 15-digit number that identifies a device on a mobile network. Every smartphone has an IMEI number.
Simply put, this number is the identity card or fingerprint of your phone. Using this number, the phone carrier authorizes a device to connect to its network.
Using the IMEI number, phone carriers, sellers, and manufacturers can track smartphones that may be lost or stolen. The number is also useful if you need to return your device to the seller. In this case, the seller may ask you for the IMEI # to make sure you’re returning the correct device.
How do I find my device’s IMEI number?
For iPhones and Androids, the easiest way to find it is in your phone's settings. Go to the Settings of your phone and search for "IMEI" in the search bar.
Otherwise, check out the guide below for more ways to find your IMEI number.
