How do I prepare and ship my package for Trade-in?

Preparing to ship your package

Know when to ship

First, know the deadline for shipping your item. Your trade-in offer expires after 21 days.

Delete and disconnect everything from your device

Delete your data from your device and disconnect from all personal accounts (such as iCloud and Google).

If you're trading in a MacBook, you also have to turn off the firmware password (if you set one before).

Packing your device

Once you have your deadline and device prepped to go, shipping is easy.

Pack like you mean it

Use a strong box with double- or triple-walled cardboard that can comfortably fit your item. You can use the original packaging if you still have it. Then use bubble wrap, airbags, cardboard, or foam peanuts/pellets to wrap and secure your item so it can't move around inside the box.

Finally, use pressure-sensitive tape (not cellophane tape, masking tape, string, or rope) to seal all seams and protect the corners.

How to get a free shipping kit to send your device

Some customers are eligible for a mailing kit depending on the type of item they're trading in and the value of their offer.

If your trade-in is eligible for a mailing kit, we'll let you know in your confirmation email and you should receive the kit within 3 to 5 business days.

If it's been more than 6 business days since your trade-in was created and you still haven't received your kit, it may have gotten lost on the way. In that case, we won't send a replacement, but you can always send your device for free using your own packaging.

How to get your shipping label

You have two options:

  • If you got a PDF shipping label: Print your prepaid shipping label yourself (unless you received a shipping kit). You can find your prepaid shipping label in your trade-in confirmation email or in your Back Market account by logging in and going to "Trade-ins" > "Ship item".

  • If you got a QR code: Show your QR code at "The UPS Store®", and they will print it for you. Note that only "The UPS Store®" retail locations accept QR codes. These are not the same as "UPS Access Points", "UPS Customer Centers", or "UPS Drop Boxes", none of which accept QR codes.

We suggest using one of these two methods to get your free shipping label rather than paying for shipping yourself. If you pay for shipping yourself, we won't be able to help you if your package is lost or stolen.

Shipping your device

If you got a UPS label or QR code:

After preparing your item and sticking the shipping label on your package, drop it off at "The UPS Store®". Make sure an employee scans it, and you get proof of deposit.

A UPS driver can also accept your package if it already has a UPS label.

If you got a USPS label:

After preparing your item and sticking the shipping label on your package, drop it off at your nearest USPS Post Office. Make sure an employee scans it, and you get proof of deposit.

Note: The prepaid shipping label we provide includes a tracking number, and your package should be covered if it gets lost, stolen, or damaged. Using the prepaid label also gives us the ability to intervene on your behalf if anything happens along the way.
