What can I trade in on Back Market?
Currently, you can trade in:
- Smartphones
- Tablets
- MacBook
- Headphones, earphones, speakers
- Gaming consoles
This includes devices that are:
-
Already refurbished or repaired: It doesn’t matter if the device was previously repaired — it probably qualifies for Trade-in.
- Locked to a carrier (phones): Unlocked phones are not tied to a specific carrier and are accepted by Trade-in. If you’d like to unlock your phone, contact your carrier and be sure to have your IMEI number handy. To find your IMEI number, dial *#06# and it’ll show up on the screen of your smartphone. Learn more about locked vs. unlocked devices
- Have a broken or non-functioning screen: Trade-in considers devices of all shapes, sizes, and paths of life as long as it’s stated during the assessment. Learn more about device conditions
For any of these items, you can go through the assessment and receive an immediate price offer from a professional refurbisher.
Devices that are not accepted
We don't accept items that have been engraved.
Blocklisted
Blocklisted devices include those that have not been paid off (these will ultimately be blocklisted by carriers), and devices that have been reported stolen or lost (and the owner has blocked the IMEI number. The IMEI number is unique to a device.) Blocklisted phones are not accepted by Trade-in.
Greylisted/finance-locked
A device is greylisted, otherwise known as “finance locked”, if it has been blocked by a carrier due to unpaid bills. Greylisted phones are not accepted by Trade-in.
Jailbroken/rooted
A jailbroken or rooted device has been modified to bypass a manufacturer’s security restrictions, which enables the download of applications or extensions not offered by the official Apple or Google Play stores. This practice is illegal and jailbroken or rooted devices are not accepted by Trade-in.
Counterfeit
A device is counterfeit if it is a fraudulent reproduction of an existing brand. Counterfeit devices are illegal and not accepted by Trade-in.
Foreign device
Foreign devices are those manufactured specifically for use outside of the United States. This means that the device may not work at all or may work with some idiosyncrasies when used in the US.
For example, some iPhones are built specifically for Japan, and because of Japanese laws, they are set up to have the camera sound on at all times. Other foreign phones simply don’t work with the cellular data networks offered in the US because they are built for other countries' frequencies. Foreign devices are not accepted by Back Market Trade-in.
I want to sell my device but can’t find it on Trade-in
Trade-in currently only accepts five categories of items: smartphones, tablets, audio devices
(i.e. headphones, earphones, speakers), MacBooks, and gaming consoles.
If the model of the device you want to trade in is in one of these categories but doesn’t appear in the dropdown menu, we probably don’t accept it.
However, we're working on adding more items and models to our catalog, so try us again another time — for this or any other devices you might want to trade in for cash.
Is Back Market Trade-in available outside the US?
Trade-in is currently only available within the 48 contiguous states of the US, France, Spain, the UK, and Germany. Please do your trade-in in your country of residence otherwise, we can’t accept it.
