Thorough testing and careful refurbishment are the foundation of every device we sell. That's why the sellers on Back Market must comply with our Quality Charter and meet our strict standards.
To increase transparency, we've implemented a grading system that reflects the appearance of items sold on Back Market. Note: we guarantee that every device is 100% functional, regardless of its appearance grade (Fair, Good, Excellent, or Premium).
The grades available depend on the item category:
- Smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktops, and smartwatches come in four grades: Premium, Excellent, Good, Fair
- All other devices come in two grades: Excellent, Good
Back Market condition descriptions
Grades for smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers, and smartwatches
Premium
Premium devices are the best devices offered by sellers on Back Market. Their screens and bodies have almost no signs of use; they contain only genuine manufacturer parts and batteries; and their batteries have a minimum capacity of 90%.
Excellent
Almost no signs of wear. The body may have very light micro-scratches that are invisible at a distance of 8 inches (a bit longer than a standard-sized pencil) or more. For items with screens, the screen will have no scratches.
Good
Light signs of wear. The body may have light micro-scratches that are invisible at a distance of 20 inches (about an arm's length) or more. For items with screens, the screen will have no scratches.
Fair
Signs of wear. The body may have a few visible scratches and dents that don't affect performance. Devices with screens may have light scratches that are slightly visible when the device is on. There might be some engraving on the device.
Grades for all other devices
Excellent
Almost no signs of wear. The body may have very light micro-scratches that are invisible at a distance of 8 inches (a bit longer than a standard-sized pencil) or more. For devices with screens, there aren't any scratches.
Good
Signs of wear. The body may have a few visible scratches and dents that don't affect performance. Devices with screens may have light scratches that are slightly visible when the device is on. There might be some engraving on the device.
Why aren't there photos of the actual devices?
All devices sold on Back Market have a past life, so it's impossible to show photos that accurately reflect the exact condition of every device. If you'd like a different condition after receiving your item, return it within 30 days.
What if the item doesn't match the grade I ordered?
If the appearance of your device doesn't match the condition description, you can open a help request with the seller. Log in to your Back Market account > "Orders" > "Get help".
For the fastest resolution, include photos of the device from every angle when you submit the request. We'll respond within one business day to arrange an exchange or refund, whichever you prefer.
How are devices cleaned and refurbished?
The professional refurbishers selling on our marketplace clean, test, and certify every item. They reset all devices to factory settings and wipe them clean, erasing any previous personal data so you get a fresh start. All batteries (in smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.) come with a guaranteed minimum of 80% of their original capacity. The professional refurbishers who sell on Back Market repair and refurbish devices using compatible or genuine parts. Original parts aren't guaranteed. They commit to using parts from reliable, high-quality manufacturers.
If you're not completely satisfied with a device you've purchased, you have 30 days to return the item and request a full refund.
