Google has identified that certain Pixel 4a devices require a software update to enhance the stability of their battery performance. From January 8, 2025, all Pixel 4a devices will receive an automatic update to Android 13. While this update aims to improve battery stability, it may reduce battery capacity and charging performance for some devices. Google refers to these as "Impacted Devices".
If your Pixel 4a is affected, you may be eligible for a solution from Google.
What can I expect from the software update?
The software update will be automatically downloaded to your Pixel 4a device, or you can manually download it. After the update, Impacted Devices may experience shorter battery life between charges, reduced charging performance, and changes to the battery-level indicator. These changes are part of new battery management features designed to improve overall battery stability.
What are the solution options for Impacted Devices?
If your Pixel 4a is an Impacted Device, Google offers you these solutions:
- Free battery replacement at walk-in repair centers in select countries or through mail-in repair in the US
- A payment of $50 (USD), converted to your local currency
- A Google Store promo code worth $100 (USD), which you can put towards purchasing a new Pixel phone on the Google Store
