If you’re having trouble installing apps on your smartphone, there could be an easy fix. Take a look at what our in-house tech experts suggest.
For Android users:
- Go to “Settings” > “Apps”. (In older operating systems you'll find this option in “Settings” > “Application Manager”.)
- Select “Google Play Store” > “Storage” > “Clear Data”.
- Select “OK” to confirm.
For iPhone users:
Sign out of the App Store and sign back in.
An iPhone that can't download apps may mean something’s wrong with your Apple ID. If the connection between your iPhone and the Apple App Store is disrupted, signing out and signing back in may fix it. Here’s how to do it:
- Go to “Settings”.
- Select your name at the top of the screen.
- Select “Sign Out” at the bottom of the screen.
- Sign back in by selecting “Sign In” and entering your Apple ID username and password.
Check if your Apple ID Payment Method is valid.
You need to connect a payment method to your Apple ID to download apps, even if you're downloading a free app. If you do not have a payment method on file or your card is expired, you might be unable to download apps. This can also lead to a “Verification Required” pop-up message. Adding a valid payment method may solve the problem.
