Preparing to ship your package
Know when to ship
Know the deadline for shipping your item. Price offers expire after 21 days. Learn how to get a new shipping deadline if you’ve missed the 21-day window
Delete and disconnect everything from your device
Delete your data from your device and disconnect from all personal accounts (like iCloud or Google).
If you trade in your MacBook, you'll also need to turn off the firmware password (if you set one).
Packing your device
Once you have your deadline and your device prepped, shipping is easy.
Pack your device like you mean it
Pack your device in a box or insulated envelope. Make sure it's well-padded so it can't move around in transit. You can use recycled materials for padding like newspapers or discarded paper.
MacBook packing recommendations
Use a strong box with double- or triple-walled cardboard that fits your item comfortably. You can use the original packaging if you still have it. Then use bubble wrap, airbags, cardboard, or foam peanuts/pellets to wrap and secure your item so it can’t move around inside the box.
Finally, use pressure-sensitive tape (not cellophane tape, masking tape, string, or rope) to seal all seams and protect the corners.
Getting a free mailing kit
Some customers are eligible for a mailing kit, depending on the type of item they're trading in and its value. We'll let you know if you're eligible after you confirm your offer. You should receive the kit within 3–5 business days.
If it's been more than 6 business days since you created your trade-in and you still haven't received your kit, it may have been lost in transit. In that case, we won't send another one. But you can always send your device using the prepaid label and your own packaging.
You can find your prepaid shipping label in your trade-in confirmation email or in your Back Market account. Log in to your Back Market account > "Trade-ins" > "Ship item".
We recommend using the prepaid label rather than paying for shipping yourself: your package will be tracked, and we can intervene on your behalf if it gets lost, stolen, or damaged.
Stick your shipping label to the box and secure it with strong tape.
Shipping your device
You have two ways to send your device.
Book a free pickup by Royal Mail
Royal Mail can collect your package directly from your address. No drop-off needed. This option is available for all devices and categories, at no extra cost.
Once you complete the trade-in process, you'll be informed about the pickup option. Look out for the booking link in your trade-in confirmation email, or go directly to the Royal Mail website to schedule collection: Book free pickup by Royal Mail
You'll need your tracking number to book your collection. You can find it in "Trade-in order details" in your Back Market account, or on the shipping label you received by email.
If the carrier doesn't show up on collection day, you can always drop off your parcel at your nearest Royal Mail location instead.
Drop off your package
Alternatively, drop off your device at an authorised location: check your shipping label to confirm which carrier to use.
Ask an employee to scan your package and get proof of deposit.
Don’t forget: The prepaid shipping label provided also includes a tracking number, and your package should be covered if it gets lost, stolen, or damaged. Using the prepaid shipping label we provide also allows us to intervene on your behalf if anything happens to your package.
Pro tips for shipping
Take photos of your device and package. These come in handy if anything unexpected happens in transit or if you receive a counteroffer from the refurbisher.
