Why we use identity verification and our legal basis
To help prevent fraud, Back Market collects your ID and proof of address to verify your identity. We do this based on our legitimate interest in keeping transactions secure and protecting our users. We use a secure document check service that automatically verifies the authenticity of the document provided. The document check service uses a combination of processes to assess the validity of an identity document (to determine the likelihood that it's genuine or fake).
We don't process biometric data as part of this identity verification process.
Data we collect and process
- Name and contact details
- ID and proof of address: personal information extracted from your ID and proof of address, such as your name, date of birth, country of issue, and ID number

Document and identity verification status: results of the verification and report with related information
How long we keep your data
Your identity document and proof of address will be deleted within 1 month of your identity being confirmed. If your identity and document check fails, we'll store your data for up to 6 months. We may store the identity check status for up to 5 years after you submit your data.
Your rights
You have the right to access your personal data, correct it, request its deletion, or restrict its processing. Under certain circumstances, you have the right to object to this data processing based on our legitimate interest for reasons related to your particular situation. This right isn't absolute and will be examined on a case-by-case basis.
