Update your software
iOS devices
- Back up your device with iCloud or on your computer
- Plug your device into a power source and make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi.
- Go to “Settings” > “General” > “Software Update”.
- You may see two software updates – pick the one you want to install.
Android devices
- Go to “Settings” > “System” > “System update”.
- You’ll be able to see your update status – follow the steps that appear on the screen.
Adjust your location settings
iOS devices
- Go to “Settings” > “Privacy” > “Location Services”.
- Make sure that the Location Services feature is on.
- Scroll down to your apps.
- Select an app and one of the following:
- “Never” – This stops access to Location Services information.
- “Ask Next Time” – This gives you the option to select one of the following:
- “Always Allow” – This gives access to your location regardless of whether the app is running or not. (This option will be retired with the release of iOS 13.)
- “While Using App” – This only gives access to location data if the app or one of its features appears on the screen.
- “Allow Once” – This allows the app to collect location data for the current session only. In any future sessions, it must ask again.
- “Don’t Allow” – This means the app can never collect your real-time location.
Android devices
- Go to “Settings” > “Location Data”.
- Check that “Location information access” is on – the button must be blue.
- Go to “Settings” > “Location Data” > “App permission” – it may also be called “Location” depending on your device.
- Here, you’ll see the location settings for your apps:
- “Never” – Denies access to your location.
- “While Using the App” – Gives access to your location when the app or any of its features appear on the screen.
- “Always” – Gives access to your location regardless of whether the app is running or not.
