Is my personal data safe through Trade-in?

Yes. Back Market ensures that refurbishers handle your personal data with the greatest care. That said, when you trade in your device, protecting your data is a shared responsibility.

Before sending your device

To keep your information secure, you must delete all personal data and disconnect all accounts from your device before sending it.

How to delete your data:

iPhone:

  • Go to "Settings" > "General" > "Transfer or Reset iPhone" > "Erase All Content and Settings"

  • Make sure to turn off "Find My iPhone" and sign out of iCloud

Android:

  • Go to "Settings" > "System" > "Reset options" > "Erase all data (factory reset)"

  • Remove your Google account before resetting

Mac:

  • Back up your Mac with Time Machine

  • Sign out of iCloud, iTunes, and iMessage

  • Turn off the firmware password (if you set one)

  • Erase your Mac using macOS Recovery

Remember, you must deactivate your user accounts to successfully trade in a device. Otherwise, the refurbisher won't be able to purchase it.

What happens after the refurbisher receives your device?

Once received, the refurbisher will perform additional data sanitization procedures and delete any remaining personal data. Your information won't end up in the wrong hands.

Your device will then be refurbished for a new life with another customer. If it's in poor condition, it will be responsibly recycled.

Why do I need to share my personal information when I trade in my device?

Our payment provider Hyperwallet requires your personal information to confirm your identity and transfer money into your bank account. Your personal information is completely secure and is only used to verify your identity and prevent fraud.

Your personal info will be erased once your identity is verified and you've received payment.
