Can I Change My Payment Method?

Whether you can change your payment method on Back Market depends on the type of transaction. This article covers three transaction types: standard orders, trade-in payouts, and Express Replacements.

Standard orders: Can I change my payment method?

No, the payment method for a standard order cannot be changed once the order is confirmed.

If you want to pay with a different payment method, you will need to:

  1. Cancel the order — cancellation is only possible if the order has not yet shipped.

  2. Place a new order and select your preferred payment method at checkout

Trade-in payouts: Can I change my payment method?

Yes, you can update your bank account details for a trade-in payout at any time.

A trade-in is the process of sending a used device to Back Market in exchange for a cash payout. To update the bank account where your trade-in payout will be sent:

  1. Log in to your Back Market account

  2. Go to My Account > My Trade-ins

  3. Select Add payment details

  4. Update your details under Banking information

  5. Save your changes

Express Replacement orders: Can I change my payment method?

No, the payment method for an Express Replacement order cannot be changed once the process has started.

An Express Replacement is a Back Market service that sends you a replacement device before you return the original, requiring a temporary card authorization to cover the replacement. Once the Express Replacement process has started, the card details used for the initial authorization cannot be changed.

If your card verification fails:

  • While the diagnostic window is still open (the time-limited period during which your device issue is being assessed): retry the card verification directly within the diagnostic window

  • After the diagnostic window has closed: wait 40 minutes, then restart the Express Replacement process from your Back Market help request

To access your help request:

  1. Log in to your Back Market account

  2. Go to My Account > My Orders

  3. Select the relevant order and open the associated help request

  4. Follow the prompts to restart the Express Replacement process
