Why does my Android shut down or restart without warning?

Solutions to try

Restart your Android device

Press and hold the power button until the power menu appears, then select “Restart” or “Reboot”.

Remove the battery (if removable)

If your device has a removable battery, switch it off, remove the battery for a few seconds, then put it back in and switch the device back on.

Clear cache partition

Boot your device into recovery mode (usually by holding down specific buttons whilst powering on), then select "Wipe Cache Partition" from the recovery menu.

Update your Android OS

  • Ensure your device is running the latest version of Android:

  • Go to “Settings” > “System” > “Software Update”.

Uninstall troublesome apps

  • If certain apps are causing problems, uninstall them from your device:

  • Go to “Settings” > “Apps” > [select the problematic app] > “Uninstall”.

Factory reset your device

  • Back up your important data, then carry out a factory reset:

  • Go to “Settings” > “System” > “Reset options” > “Erase all data” (factory reset).
