Paying in installments (Buy Now, Pay Later)

Back Market partners with several buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) providers so you can spread the cost of your purchase into smaller payments. Availability depends on your country. You will see all eligible installment options at checkout.

Approval is handled entirely by the BNPL provider. Back Market does not control or influence the decision. If you are declined, please contact the provider directly.

Clearpay

What is Clearpay and how does it work?

Clearpay is a payment service that lends UK customers a fixed amount of credit to make purchases instantly and then pay for them in 4 automatic instalments, made every 2 weeks, without any interest (late fees apply). Please use Clearpay responsibly.

The service is provided by Clearpay Finance Ltd. Clearpay Plans are deemed authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority for the purposes of the Temporary Permission regime for Regulated Deferred Payment Credit.

How do I use Clearpay?

Shop on Back Market and check out as normal. At checkout, choose Clearpay as your payment method. Clearpay will redirect you to log in or create an account and provide your payment details (Visa or Mastercard).

If you've used Clearpay before, log in to complete your order.

Who can use Clearpay?

Clearpay is only available to permanent UK residents 18 or older (excluding the Channel Islands) with a UK billing address. Customers with international billing addresses can't use Clearpay or create a Clearpay account. Other eligibility criteria apply, including creditworthiness and affordability assessments.

How does the Clearpay payment schedule work?

Clearpay will split the total value of your order into 4 instalments payable every fortnight. The exact amounts and dates will be displayed for you to agree to before you confirm your purchase

If you'd like to make additional payments before they're due, you may log in to your Clearpay account to make your payments early. Clearpay will then adjust the amount owed accordingly.

You can log in to your Clearpay account at any time to view your payment schedule or make a payment before the next due date.

What if I can't pay a Clearpay instalment?

If you cannot make a payment, contact Clearpay for support.

As soon as you miss a payment, Clearpay will immediately stop you from making any further purchases with Clearpay. Clearpay will give you until 11 PM on the following day to make your repayment, and you'll then incur a late fee if you are still unable to make the payment by then. This will be an initial £6 and a further fee of £6 if the missed payment is not made within 7 days. If your order is less than £24, the total late fee will be £6. If your order is £24 or more, total late fees won't exceed 25% of the total order value or £24, whichever is less.

Late payments may affect future spending limits. Clearpay may also report your late payment data to credit reference agencies. This could have a negative impact on your credit file and could make it harder to get credit in the future. Clearpay debt may be passed to a debt collection agency. This may affect your ability to use Clearpay in the future.

Refunds on Clearpay orders

  • Back Market processes the refund first. The refund is then reflected in your Clearpay account.

  • Instalments already paid are refunded to the card used for payments (up to 10 business days).

  • Future instalments are cancelled. Until Back Market confirms receipt of any returned goods, you remain responsible for making your scheduled payments to Clearpay.

  • If Back Market issues a refund directly to your card or wallet instead of through Clearpay, you must still pay your remaining Clearpay instalments separately.
